One Picture = Three kids, Three Albums, Three Different Layouts

November 18, 2017

Good morning,

When I was growing my Mom made each of one of us an album, so it was a no-brainer when I had my kids to create an album for each.  I actually enjoy it as I get to do a picture three different ways. I have been known to even change product line depending on which child I want to highlight.  Case in point this layout, I wanted to bring out the red in my middle son’s shirt as well as the pumpkin he was holding. (Funny how they naturally line up in order!)  In addition, he is the one who likes doing activities together as a family.

Where in the previous layout Pumpkin patch 2016I was going for the more traditional look of the picture to highlight my little one’s new awareness of Halloween and pumpkin patches. We had many conversations after the fact about when the pumpkins come back along with wanting to trick or treat every week.

For my oldest, I wanted to use the same Echo Park Collection as I love plaids and dots but the colors were not working. The best match is the new Amber Moon Collection I just purchased to make a mini album.

img_0803It worked out because I could also use my new Nuvo Pure Sheen Glittler in Spiced Apricot!  In addition, I was also able to use up some old stash of the Technique Tuesday Wavy Frames chipboard.

My oldest has a personality that can not be missed when he comes into the room which is why I decided to use the glitter. Pumpkin tradition-3He also is the guy who loves the traditions and adding to them. Going to the pumpkin patch is all about the pumpkins for him. He is particular, always has been, a pumpkin has to be a certain size and color as he usually has a design in mind.  He is also the one who knows I will want a group shot and sets the positive example by getting enthused and corraling the other two.

I painted the outside frame with Prima’s shimmery paint in brass hardware. While I have a different idea of brass, it is this beautiful copper color that goes perfectly with the Amber Moon collection. I have to say, I love fall colors mixed with a copper foil or metallic. I had a fun time playing with the paints for this layout. The second wavy frame is part of the pack but a little smaller, it does a great job of giving the picturer some dimension and taking the glitter nicely!

I do take pictures of each one with their own moments, but I always make them do the obligatory “mom” picture of the three of them! This usually becomes the first page of a highly photographed event such as the pumpkin patch, then add the individual photos.

So, here you go, one picture used in three very different layouts subtlely acknowledging three unique sons who make me continually smile!

Tell me, do you different albums for your kids, grandkids or furbabies?

What? Gems on a boy layout!

November 4, 2017

Good Morning,

These photos have taken me forever to find the right paper line to scrap these pictures. In fact, it has been so long, my son who was in 3rd grade at the time of these pictures is now in Middle School!

Finally, Doodlebug Designs came to my rescue by releasing Dragon Tails earlier this year. This line has been good for birthday layouts as in the one found here, but also for things like dragon slaying and sword fighting….with balloons!

As I get myself more involved in social media, I am finding so many scrapbookers who have a hard time doing boy or guy layouts. As a mom of three boys, I never gave it much thought other than to think the majority of the industry caters to young girls and women. I am not a pro, but one thing I do not have a problem with is adding sparkle and floral components when warranted.

On this layout that you will notice I used gems. The large blue gems helped the swords come to life (cameo cut file “Pirate Sword” by Amy Robinson).  On the journaling card, they act as to give the feel of a tacked up sign. Then I lucked out to find grey pearl gems in my stash to help move the eye across the page as it felt like the two sides were divided.  I used my circle punch to make “tabs” then added a gem to look like a tag pull.

I use them a lot to move an eye around, dot I’s and give a border on a picture. What is best about these adhesive pearls or gems is they are not “heavy” looking on a page. As compared to an ephemera piece or sticker. Even a stamp sometimes seems like it takes up too much of the visual! As an alternative, if I am out of gems I reach for my Nuvo enamel drops or the new glitter drops.  What do you think, do you use gems or something sparkly on your guy layouts?  Let me know in the comments!

You don’t have to give up your bling just because you are doing a boy or male layout.   What do you think, do you use gems or something sparkly on your guy layouts?  Let me know in the comments!

A little Bro Time at the Pumpkin Patch

October 1, 2017

I am sorry to be away for so long! School stated with so many demands that my time to create has been non-existent. I miss being able to share and visit all of your projects and sites.  I will be around soon to check what all  of you are doing.

But for now let’s get into this layout…..

I used an older Authentique Collection called Moonlit for all the papers. I love the little 3×4 cut aparts in this collection. The brighter colors pop with the papers. The little boy was too cute to pass up!

Pumpkin patch 2016

The spider web was a little flat so I added some Nuvo Crystal Drops in black to give it dimension and shine.   Then finished the picture with some twine and Tim Holtz little halloween metal tags.

Look forward to seeing everyone’s posts about this years pumpkin patch visits and Fall decorations.  Let me know what you think in comments!

Until next time…

Dragons, Babies, and Cake, yippee!

June 13, 2017

Good Morning,

I finally have a layout done for my almost 4 -year old’s 1st birthday.  Looking at the picture it is amazing to see how little he was, yet so independent. To commemorate his first cake moment I am using Doodlebug’s new Dragon Tails papers and die cuts for embellishments.

Having the ability to cut out many of the elements on my silhouette cameo is changing how I am scrapbooking. Having the control of size and color to fit with my layout is freeing. Besides watching these creatures with their cute little faces come to life adds an additional sense of satisfaction.

Week June 12 facebook-5

For this little guy, I did an “offset”  in gray to the base image (blue) to delineate more from the patterned background. The cake and the balloons are also part of the collection but sold separately in the Silhouette Design Store.

The balloons have a little “glossy accents” to add “shine’ as does the flame of the candle.  I added the baker’s twine for the balloons as well with my Xyron X sticker maker. Have I mentioned how much I love that little machine?

Tip: To keep ends from fraying put a lite layer of a liquid glue worked into the twine. Then shape it, this will also help in keeping the different stings together as well stop fraying.

The large Dragon who I am referring to as “Betsy” is popped up on foam tape and ready for fun! I can see myself using her on more layouts or cards. She is cut out at full file size which is approx. 10 inches across.

Week June 12 facebook 3

This is my completed page, The two dinosaurs, Birthday Boy title, balloons, gift, and cake are all cut on my Silhouette Cameo. The present on the bottom and “Just for you” are from the cut apart sheet. The banners are fussy cut from the side “B” of cobblestones.

Week June 12 facebook-4

Here is my supply list:

  • Doodlebug Dragon Tails paper: cobblestone, dragon den, dragon’s breath, friendly fleet (side B – blue cake layer) and sea serpent stripes (side B- Cut apart)
  • Doodlebug Linen and gingham: limeade, swimming pool, and grasshopper
  • Doodlebug Dragon Tails – 12 x12 sticker sheet
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Silhouette Design StoreL: Doodlebug Cut files for Dragon Tails Collection

Easter layout2

Today I received my prize pack that encompassed a $25.00 gift certificate to their store along with $100 worth of product from Lawn Fawn, Waffle Flower, Technique Tuesday and Art Impressions.  I thought I would share a quick video so others could see how generous the prize packs are from Scrapbook.com

If you have not been on Scrapbook.com I suggest taking a stroll through their site. They have an extensive gallery of many different styles and interests along with forums (under the “more” tab), free classes, a store and much more.

Again I share about them just because I think their site would be of benefit.

Thanks you for following along with me.
