St. Patrick’s Day Shaker Card

March 7, 2019

California is seeing record amounts of rain and snow pack this year. While it is dreary it does make for a beautiful green spring filled with surprises, I have plants and vines from years ago reappearing. All the green outside is inspiring me to create something for St. Patrick’s Day.

I was thinking a shaker would allow me to play with the pretty Prickled Pear Green and Rose Gold (more like old gold) sequins. Along with new heart dies to make confetti and a new shaker set. I was out of luck in finding any St. Patrick’s theme in my stash or local stores, but luckily I found some old Bo Bunny Double Dot in my stash and set to work.

As I sat down to create the shaker, I had forgotten my technique. After dumping a full shaker everywhere on my first attempt, I grabbed another cup of coffee and picked sequins off my dog’s back, she is a great foot warmer. I remebered to make a pile of the filling on the base paper first. Then cover it with the adhesive backed shaker piece followed by layering the piece with the die cut opening on top. To cover the cut edges and mechanics, I cut two larger hearts out of a gold textured paper (a new favorite) and the green mirror card.

Finally with a little experiment in hand lettering tall letters with doodling and making clovers out of hearts topped with black sequins, I was done.

I would love to see what you are creating for St. Patricks’s Day or Spring so please leave a link in the comments so I can visit. Thank you for checking out my card.

Kindergarten skills, Birthday Cards and fun.

March 1, 2019

My Kindergartener’s teacher is having a birthday this month. My son, who loves using stamps, wanted to make a card.  For the last couple of nights we have stamped, colored and die cut. We finally came up with this card.

We used a new stamp and die set from Stamps of Life by Stephanie Bernard along with her ink pads and matching pens. My son loves lots of bright colors, so I pulled out an old paper pack from Bo Bunny “On the Go” to bring out all his colors. He wanted it to look glossy and “painted” so we added Glossy Accents.  The banners are cut from an older Sizzix set of birthday dies and stamps, but the sweet little goodies are all part of the Ice cream Truck set.

A couple of details… I used the detail die on the stamped image and layered it to a second one to minimize curling with the glossy accents. Then cut a “shadow” piece of the truck to pull it out from the busy background as well as dimensional tape. The little cloud of exhaust was fussy cut from the paper collection that had airplanes in the clouds.

While the card is not what my picky self would give, my son’s proud expression as he shared it with his older brothers makes it my favorite project yet!

Here is our Supply list:

Updates and Nuvo’s new Triangle Glitter

February 26, 2019

Hellllooo!

Despite the blog being quiet for a while, I have been creating projects I have wanted to share; only my computer is not cooperating! It seems I have run into hard disk issues making it difficult to use my editing programs.   I had hoped to be able to share my completed Halloween album and my Graphic 45 Christmas album in a video walk-through, but no luck.  They were design team projects for the local store, so I had to physically give them up.  Sigh!

Moving on to what I can do with my mobile devices…I love my tonic craft kits. One of the benefits of being a subscriber is getting new releases before the general public. In the last kit, we received a generous bottle of “Rainbow Quartz Triangles” glitter. A new addition to the “Pure Sheen” line.

We also received new colors in the Hybrid inks in the “Tropical” theme. Yes, they sent us the whole pack of three. I was so happy to see these bright colors in the middle of a rainy winter.

Wanting to use these new products around Valentine’s Day I decided to try them out on a card. I used  1-inch adhesive tape on the top and bottom, inked the middle section with the Panama Rose color. I loved how easy it was to apply with Tim Holtz Blender tool and get a pretty even application.  Using Nuvo clear embossing ink and Nuvo Expresso Embossing Powder, I stamped the sentiment.

Now for the show stopper, I removed the tape to add the triangles. The cool factor is how much light they catch. If you are looking for maximum sparkle, this will do it. However, on a card, it will take some work to get them flat and lined up.  I think in the future I would use wet adhesive for this kind of application. I also went over a few places that had gaps with the Diamond Pure Sheen Glitter which I used on the bottom 1 inch of the card.

After playing with these Quartz Triangles confetti/glitter, I think they would be stunning in a shaker element. Either a shaker for a card, mini album page or front cover element these triangles would make it sparkle. The nice thing is they pack a lot of product in the bottle so one could be generous in a shaker and still have a lot left over.

I appreciate your visit and any thoughts you care to share on this project.

A box full of Doggie Cuteness – Digital Stamps

March 9, 2018

Good Morning,

Being apart of this Design Team for If you give a Crafter a Cookie is stretching my crafting into the coloring area. This is a huge for me as growing up I was always told I didn’t color right. I either didn’t color in the right direction or within the lines or the right color, this created a bit of confidence issue throughout my life.

However a few years ago Copic Markers enter my life, and things began to change. These amazing marker’s ink would flow out smooth, filling an image with color almost flawlessly when dried. However even with this, when I started with this Design Team, I still wanted to shy away from anything colored. While I have improved, I am still on the low of “novice.”  I promised to push myself and the adorable digital stamp being offered by Imagine that Digistampsto us was just too cute to pass up.

In fact, they have a lot of large variety of super cute Digital Stamps. It is worth the perusal.

To make this card, I used the “print and cut” feature of my silhouette cameo to isolate the circle image with the text.

The box with the dog image I also isolated the image from the surrounding white space and border. Once I was able to do that I printed it. Then I created a mirrored outline of the image. Due to the size of the image, I couldn’t weld it together and cut it as one piece. I did create a hinge piece, welded it to the outline side of the card and created a “scor” line by using a dashed line. Once cut it was easy to fold and attach the two pieces at the box edge.

To color the image I used Copic Markers:

  • 110 Black
  • E21 Baby Skin Pink
  • E13 Light Suntan
  • E29 Burnt Umber
  • B29 Ultramarine
  • C6 Cool Grey
  • R29 Lipstick Red.

I also had some “Ice Stickles” it has larger glitter flakes in it, to add some sparkle.

As you can see I still have a ways to go with my coloring. But, I hope by sharing my novice skills, it inspires anyone else who feels they can’t do it, to try it.

If you have any questions on how I did this with the Cameo or just want to comment (but please be gentle about the coloring) please see the box below.

Thanks for stopping by!

Until next time…
