Fussy cutting and Layering on a card, Oh my!

May 7, 2019

Good Morning,

I am working through the simple Stories Vintage Bliss 6×6 pad like a kid at christmas with a new toy. I am loving for the cards and projects I am making for teacher appreciatation.

Today’s card used about 5 different pattern papers but some were scraps from yesterday’s card. here is the link: https://themorningscrapper.com/2019/05/05/garden-theme-teacher-appreciation-card/ I love all these patterns, they all work perfectly together, one of the reasons Simple Stories is one of my favorite manufactureres.

I used the large floral design and cut out the beautiful big flowers that remind me of peonies. they looked lonely so I cut a few smaller flowers and tucked them around them.

Then to highlight as well as pull all the colors together I built it on the wood and flowers paper, adding the blue strip and a layer of pink. I really liked the base pattern with the muted gold tones. I felt it picked up the little flowers in the pattern as well as the suble shading in the large yellow flower.

Then I added my stamped sentiment from the Stamps of Life set I just received as part of their Die Hard club. The stamp2garden set is cute and it looks like you can get a second set with paterns for some of the stamps. I will add a link in the supply list.

I also wanted to add this Vintage Bliss paper pad was part of a warehouse box I purchased last June from Simple Stories. This is why I purchase them, I would have never given this a look but so glad I received it!

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you think of this card series.

Garden Theme Teacher Appreciation Card

May 5, 2019

Good Morning,

Today I have a quick share of a garden theme teacher appreciation card. I was inspired by my latest “die hard” club set that just arrived from Stamps of Life Die Hard club. At the bottom, I stamped “Thanks… followed by the inside sentiment ” for helping me grow” it is the perfect statement.

I also enjoy creating a little more when I get to use pinks and flowers. The vintage bliss 6×6 paper pad was perfect for this project. It was hard to choose just a few papers. Luckily the paper is reversible so I could use every bit of scrap.

All the die cuts were double layered except for the flowers, which were triple layered. The stems were so delicate I wanted to make sure they had extra support. I propped up the watering can on dimensional tape to keep it on the same level of these “bubbles”. I thought the “bubbles” gave a nice water drop effect, What do you think? They are flat backed and come in various sizes but I went a little uniform trying to create a “sprinkled” look a watering can some times create.

I thought the “wood plank” paper made a nice frame for the pink paper. I added a 1 inch border of the plaid to pull all the colors together. My one blue flower looked lonely but the little flower pattern seemed to help balance it. Did I mention I loved working with this paper? It is so easy to play with as everything looks great together.

Thanks for looking. I always appreciate your thoughts on my projects.

Pretty in Pink Mirror Card

April 9, 2019

Good Morning!!

I recently received some beautiful dies in a Tonic Studios craft kit. Along with some elegant rose mirror card and new Nuvo gem stones in pink. I have been wanting to play with this kit for two months and all it took was cleaning up my space to do it.

Once I ran these beautiful dies through the thick mirror card I knew any idea of cleaning up was gone. Glue was back out so fast I don’t even remember grabbing it. This cut beautifully on my Sizzix, what was left was easy to pop out of the die and design.

The grey rose paper was used for the wreath and behing the psuedo gatefold. The wreath die came from my monthly kit from Stamps of Life. I put a link to the die and stamps in the supply list. The bling is the new “gemstones” from their Nuvo Pure Sheen collection. They come in different sizes, it might be hard to see but they are faceted so they catch the light beautifully. Love this color!

For the inside, I used more of grey paper, hopefully you can see more of the textured embossed vines with roses. The finish reminded me of formal dresses made of taffeta when I was young. It is such a beautiful paper that I didn’t do justice too in this shot. I have a link to it in the supply list.

The Rose Mirror behind the sentiment is a different filagree die that is part of the kit. It would make a beautiful border strip on any project. It was hard covering it up but wanted to use the stamps from the kit. I like the offset of shiny paper peeking out from the sentiment.

Thanks for looking at my card below is the supply list.

Until next time….

Kindergarten skills, Birthday Cards and fun.

March 1, 2019

My Kindergartener’s teacher is having a birthday this month. My son, who loves using stamps, wanted to make a card.  For the last couple of nights we have stamped, colored and die cut. We finally came up with this card.

We used a new stamp and die set from Stamps of Life by Stephanie Bernard along with her ink pads and matching pens. My son loves lots of bright colors, so I pulled out an old paper pack from Bo Bunny “On the Go” to bring out all his colors. He wanted it to look glossy and “painted” so we added Glossy Accents.  The banners are cut from an older Sizzix set of birthday dies and stamps, but the sweet little goodies are all part of the Ice cream Truck set.

A couple of details… I used the detail die on the stamped image and layered it to a second one to minimize curling with the glossy accents. Then cut a “shadow” piece of the truck to pull it out from the busy background as well as dimensional tape. The little cloud of exhaust was fussy cut from the paper collection that had airplanes in the clouds.

While the card is not what my picky self would give, my son’s proud expression as he shared it with his older brothers makes it my favorite project yet!

Cold Mornings and Hot Cocoa!

November 7, 2017

Good Morning,

Our weather lately has been crazy; last week we were roasting with 90-degree weather and this week we finally are getting those cold, crisp morning of Fall. This time of year is one of my favorites with all the trees showing their beautiful color, the cooler air and my favorite drink, hot chocolate! I like mine with a little nutmeg on top; I know not the most traditional!

My new stamp and die set just arrived from Stamps of Life, it is the cutest Hot Cocoa theme, it fast becoming a favorite.

I couldn’t wait I had to make a card right away! Being that it is Fall I wanted to go with a more rustic look, so I grabbed kraft paper and decided against doing a more elaborate background. I was inspired by those cool overcast Fall morning with a warm cup of cocoa.

I used the mug stamp and die along with whipped cream outline die, and the detailed whipped cream inset die. To give it a little shine and a few sprinkles of “nutmeg” I mixed my latest Nuvo acquisitions in their “Pure sheen” aka fine glitter collection in spiced apricot and diamond.

The card itself is a 4.25 by 5.5 (A2) size with an inside layer of white at 4×5. The sentiments in this set are perfect so I went with “…is like a warm hug on the inside”  ideal way to describe how I feel after drinking a mug of cocoa!

I added a little red and white bakers twine, die cut the marshmallows for a little playful movement and then pop dotted the mug and whipped cream.

This set is super fun, and I see she just came out with the polka dot stamp for the mug. If you are interested here is the site.  I have not done a recent monthly stamp project in a while, but this was hard to put off, I guess it spoke to me!

What is your favorite Autumn warm drink?

Until next time…
