Handy Kitchen Mason Jar conversion charts

June 15, 2017

Good Morning,

This year in 6th grade it seems the whole class caught the baking bug. An on-going homework assignment this year was to share something you are interested learning on your own.  Each Friday the kids would present to their groups whatever they were learning. My son started out with learning German but soon he too joined the foodies through his passion for creating desserts. He ditched the German for homemade brownies, cookies of all kinds and lemon cake to name a few.

Thursday nights our house would contain the sweetest smells of his homework. He would often wait to bake until his other homework was done and after dinner when all the dishes were in the dishwasher. He would hunt around for a tablespoon or measuring cup only to come up short. It was either burn the fingers opening the dishwasher or hunt around for the one cookbook that had conversion tables. We just never remembered which book and where it was in said book.

Imagine how thrilled I was to see these newly released Lori Whitlock conversions cut files in the Silhouette Design Store. I decided to make a little “mini album” of sorts for the kitchen.  My thought is to put them on a ring and maybe laminate them but I am having a hard time putting a hole through the cute mason jars, let alone where. I also wanted to keep them plain as they would in the kitchen and laminated.

Week June 12 facebook-6

I have had this Echo Park “Made from Scratch” collection in my stash waiting for “just the right” kitchen project. The papers were perfect as they were light enough to use my Silhouette Sketch pens for the writing.  I choose to write the conversions instead of cutting them out as each letter and number would cut individually. Not only would this take longer but, I knew I would never get them on perfectly straight.

The cut file for the cups and tablespoon can be customized as much as you want with the different papers. I kept it pretty simple except for the handles, it allowed for some more patterns to help tie everything together.

Week June 12 facebook-7I absolutely love how these mason jars turned out. The lids have 4 cut layers that add so much dimension to the jars. These papers were just right for the look of these mason jars.  Each piece ( cups and tablespoon too)  has a front and back piece of the same design paper. It lends weight to the cuts as well a more finished look.

I am still deciding on where to punch the hole in the mason jars and open to suggestions as all six pieces will go on a ring. I am having that “new jar of peanut butter” dilemma. The top is so perfectly smooth, I don’t want to mar it with the knife. Does anyone else struggle with that?

Thanks for any suggestions and stopping in to hear my project story.

Silhouette Cameo “For You” Card

June 14, 2017

Good Morning,

One of the things I love about the Silhouette Cameo is the abundance of projects with customizable layers and shapes. One of these is this verstle card by Lori Whitlock called “For You”.  I opted for the bright colors and to use all the layers the cut file offered. Week June 12 facebook-2

Week June 12 facebook 2

This card is made using a mix of Fancy Pants Designs, “Be You” and Doodlebug Linen and gingham in green, pink and yellow shades. I opted to add a gem topped brad to the flower but the cut file does come with a center piece. I was thinking niext time it might be fun to add crystal drops to the center circle for color and dimension.  This is what I love about this card is the different ways it can be used.

Here is my supply list:

  • Doodlebug gingham and linen papers: limeade, cupcake (pink) lemonade (light yellow) bumble bee (darker yellow)
  • Fancy Pants “Be You” (older collection)
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Silhouette Design Store: Lori Whitlock cut file “For You”
  • Gem top brad
  • Xyron X and 3 inch machine

I alwasy appreciate the visits and comments.

Until next time…….

Dragons, Babies, and Cake, yippee!

June 13, 2017

Good Morning,

I finally have a layout done for my almost 4 -year old’s 1st birthday.  Looking at the picture it is amazing to see how little he was, yet so independent. To commemorate his first cake moment I am using Doodlebug’s new Dragon Tails papers and die cuts for embellishments.

Having the ability to cut out many of the elements on my silhouette cameo is changing how I am scrapbooking. Having the control of size and color to fit with my layout is freeing. Besides watching these creatures with their cute little faces come to life adds an additional sense of satisfaction.

Week June 12 facebook-5

For this little guy, I did an “offset”  in gray to the base image (blue) to delineate more from the patterned background. The cake and the balloons are also part of the collection but sold separately in the Silhouette Design Store.

The balloons have a little “glossy accents” to add “shine’ as does the flame of the candle.  I added the baker’s twine for the balloons as well with my Xyron X sticker maker. Have I mentioned how much I love that little machine?

Tip: To keep ends from fraying put a lite layer of a liquid glue worked into the twine. Then shape it, this will also help in keeping the different stings together as well stop fraying.

The large Dragon who I am referring to as “Betsy” is popped up on foam tape and ready for fun! I can see myself using her on more layouts or cards. She is cut out at full file size which is approx. 10 inches across.

Week June 12 facebook 3

This is my completed page, The two dinosaurs, Birthday Boy title, balloons, gift, and cake are all cut on my Silhouette Cameo. The present on the bottom and “Just for you” are from the cut apart sheet. The banners are fussy cut from the side “B” of cobblestones.
