December Daily

November 21, 2017

Good Morning,

Today I have my first December Daily ever to share even though it is stuck in a time warp. I originally bought all these supplies two years ago to do some kind of December documenting. However, I had succumbed to the inequitable equation of time vs. all the projects I want to get done!   This year I was inspired by taking the Simple Stories class for this year’s December Daily album using the pretty ” Very Mery Collection” to then complete this one meant for 2015. Do I get bonus points for getting it done and posted on Black Friday? Well, at least a cookie!

I had taken quite a few pictures of the album, so I put them together in this little video to make it easier to see things. SOOOOOOO………Without further ado here is my Simple Stories “Santa Claus & Co.” December “Daily” album ready to be filled with Christmas past. (While you look at that I need to go hunt for my journaling from that year.)

Videos are still a work in progress. Hopefully, it was enjoyable.
I am always appreciative of the visit!
Until next time…….

One Picture = Three kids, Three Albums, Three Different Layouts

November 18, 2017

Good morning,

When I was growing my Mom made each of one of us an album, so it was a no-brainer when I had my kids to create an album for each.  I actually enjoy it as I get to do a picture three different ways. I have been known to even change product line depending on which child I want to highlight.  Case in point this layout, I wanted to bring out the red in my middle son’s shirt as well as the pumpkin he was holding. (Funny how they naturally line up in order!)  In addition, he is the one who likes doing activities together as a family.

Where in the previous layout Pumpkin patch 2016I was going for the more traditional look of the picture to highlight my little one’s new awareness of Halloween and pumpkin patches. We had many conversations after the fact about when the pumpkins come back along with wanting to trick or treat every week.

For my oldest, I wanted to use the same Echo Park Collection as I love plaids and dots but the colors were not working. The best match is the new Amber Moon Collection I just purchased to make a mini album.

img_0803It worked out because I could also use my new Nuvo Pure Sheen Glittler in Spiced Apricot!  In addition, I was also able to use up some old stash of the Technique Tuesday Wavy Frames chipboard.

My oldest has a personality that can not be missed when he comes into the room which is why I decided to use the glitter. Pumpkin tradition-3He also is the guy who loves the traditions and adding to them. Going to the pumpkin patch is all about the pumpkins for him. He is particular, always has been, a pumpkin has to be a certain size and color as he usually has a design in mind.  He is also the one who knows I will want a group shot and sets the positive example by getting enthused and corraling the other two.

I painted the outside frame with Prima’s shimmery paint in brass hardware. While I have a different idea of brass, it is this beautiful copper color that goes perfectly with the Amber Moon collection. I have to say, I love fall colors mixed with a copper foil or metallic. I had a fun time playing with the paints for this layout. The second wavy frame is part of the pack but a little smaller, it does a great job of giving the picturer some dimension and taking the glitter nicely!

I do take pictures of each one with their own moments, but I always make them do the obligatory “mom” picture of the three of them! This usually becomes the first page of a highly photographed event such as the pumpkin patch, then add the individual photos.

So, here you go, one picture used in three very different layouts subtlely acknowledging three unique sons who make me continually smile!

Tell me, do you different albums for your kids, grandkids or furbabies?

Gift Card pop up Box

November 13, 2017

Good Morning,

For the upcoming gift-giving season or in my household the rest of the family birthdays, I am sharing a Silhouette cut file for gift card box.  It seems as my kids get older their presents get smaller but more expensive. One of their favorites is to receive gift cards to their favorite places, this seems to hold true for their friends as well. I don’t know about you but, putting a gift card in a card always seems to lack a little something, I am always on the lookout for new ways to present a gift card.  I made this one for a friend of my son’s birthday recently, even my son liked it. He said it felt like I was giving a “present” not just a card!  The box itself is two cuts on one piece of 12×12 paper. The exterior of the box is all connected to give that interior pop. The inside hinge might be a little tricky figuring out which way it folds to lift up the gift card.

I made this one for a friend of my son’s birthday recently, it was received well, the mom even sent me a note asking how I made it.  The box itself is two cuts on one piece of 12×12 paper. The exterior of the box is all connected to give that interior pop. The inside hinge might be a little tricky figuring out which way it folds to lift up the gift card.

However, once you do it, it makes sense. The creator of this cut file has instructions on her blog which were pretty easy to follow. If you are interested I will have links to it on my supply list below.  This card also has room to add a little candy or other surprises inside as well.

The finishing touch is the shadow block letter spelling Happy, they are all welded at the bottom and fit the expanse of the box perfectly. The cursive “birthday” is a simple one layer cut. I cut it twice and layered it to make it stand out a little more.

All together this project took me 30 minutes from when I finally picked my paper. It would have been faster if I didn’t over think the hinge! 🙂

Here is my supply list with links:

  • 1  sheet of  12×12 pattern paper – reversible is best for the box.
  • 6×6 sheet of pattern paper for “Happy.”
  • One sheet of solid cardstock for Shadow on Happy and cursive birthday.
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Silhouette Design Store – 3D Pop Up Gift Card Birthday Box Design Id #63323 by Jamie Cripps
  • link to “how to”  http://jamielanedesigns.blogspot.com/2014/07/pop-up-gift-card-boxes.html
  • Optional candy or trinkets to fill box along with the gift card
  • If you give this DIY Gift Box a try, I would love to hear how it went and what you thought.

Until next time……

P.S. To keep the coffee flowing while I create and write I have added my Amazon affiliate link to products. However I still only suggest products I think you will like and those I have had a good experience using.

Shopping Sales and Deal Sites, Oh My!

November 8, 2017

Good morning,

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you probably already know this but, I have been shopping lately, a lot! I can’t help it, my local scrapbook store had a fantastic sale last weekend, including 50% off Graphic 45.  Yes, I know, 50% off the new lines too, so I went a little crazy! In addition, I added to my Nuvo Collections of ”Pure Sheen” (fine glitter) and Nuvo “Glimmer” (glitter paste in a jar).  To my defense though I am still replenishing from when my little one decided to decorate the floor with my entire glitter and embossing stash!

At the same time, Blisy.com has amazing sales going on this month!  Their stamping sale last week was amazing with things up to 80% off. I challenged myself to look at things that were under $7.00. I am not a big stamper or embosser, but I am working on it.  I thought by limiting myself I wouldn’t have the selection so I would be safe. WRONG!  I ended up with 14 items from embossing folders to mini distress inks to stamps sets, including shipping around $30.00. Here is a sampling:

I was surprised by how much I loved the Frayed Burlap color, that is going look great on beach themes and all my guy layouts! The brick embossing folder is perfect for some Christmas projects I was thinking of adding a chimney! Time Holtz nailed the brick color perfectly!

Then if you saw yesterday’s post on the hot cocoa card, then you know my monthly stamp set came in. I guess I am having a little bit of an early Christmas, now if only I could get the new Silhouette Cameo 3 for under $10.00 then there would be some celebrating!

I think what kicked this whole thing off was some great deals on Peachy Cheap.com daily doorbuster quality deals. Now they are doing one for planners but since it can be used for cardmaking or scrapbooking it is like getting two deal a day!

Finally, if you ever want more of a collection that is older or maybe you are like me and only find bits and pieces when it is too late. The first place I look is Scrapbooking-for-Less.com. I filled in “Life in Color” by Simple Stories. I find past collections at great deals including Simple Stories, Graphic 45, Echo Park, Carta Bella, Bella Blvd to name a few!

Anyway,  I hope you are able to pick up some things off your wish list to finish up your Autumn and Holiday projects! Know this is a safe place to share, no judgment! If you have a great place to share, please tell about it in comments!

…Until next time
