Amping Up Your Gift Card Presentation

I recently started making cards in the spirit of a  mini album page. They do the job of holding a gift card but the idea that surprises can be added with an extra pocket or flap has taken it to a new level. Watching the receipent go from the bland typical expression of yet another card to excitement as they open another flap or a pocket full of unexpected surprises is so fun! I also find the cards are kept long after the gift card has been spent.

For Teacher Apprecaitation Week, I came up with this tri-fold card.

I usded chipboard embellishment as it added weight to keep the front flap down. Ribbon, twine or leather strings for a closure would look amazing as well.

As it unfolds, the first panel has a belly band to hold a gift card or an extra note.

Then as the card fully unfold it opens up to a center with room for a note from both my son and I. On the sides I added pockets for my son to tuck in some puns, jokes and limricks. (The two of them have bonded over bad puns!)  I could also see putting in gift cards or photo mats.

I liked this idea as we were able to give a card that is more respresentative of the family’s appreciatation of her.  Of course these could be adopted for birthday cards, holidays or a “thinking of you” occassion.

Here is my supplies list: *

  • 1 piece of cream cardstock for a base – cut at 6×12
  • 1 piece of 12×12 Bo Bunny Double Dot card stock “Poppy Dot”
  • Bo Bunny Collection “Hello Sunshinine” (older collection) – 6×6 pad
  • Hello Sunshine chipboard pieces
  • spellbinder Border dies (for pocket)
  • score board

One tip: Once you score your card at even intervals, you will want to trim the inside  flap anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4. This will prevent the edges from bending.

*Keep in mind the measurements are for this tri fold card but can be adapted to your preference as well as the paper collections and embellishments. I would love to see what you come up with working off my basic template.

Happy creating!

Until next time……
